Browns’ Conditional 7th Round Pick in Jeopardy After York’s Release

It’s been a tumultuous journey for Cade York, the former Cleveland Browns and LSU kicker. This summer, York was traded to the Washington Commanders for a conditional seventh-round pick. However, following his recent debut, the Browns will not see that pick.

In his first game with the Commanders, York missed both of his field goal attempts—one from 47 yards and another from 56—contributing to the team’s 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This performance led to his release from the team, as he failed to meet the conditions required for the Browns to receive the conditional pick.

York, who had joined the Browns earlier this offseason, was traded to Washington after they released veteran kicker Brandon McManus. Drafted by the Browns in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, York’s early promise faltered, leading to his departure from Cleveland following a challenging rookie season and preseason.

With York’s release, Washington now faces the task of finding a new kicker for the third time this year as the season progresses.
