“Family and Friends Remember Jose Ervin, Jr. at Emotional Vigil Following Fatal Shooting”
Loved ones gathered on Sunday afternoon for a vigil in memory of Jose Ervin, Jr., who was fatally shot two days earlier. The vigil took place near the location of the shooting, where his family and friends shared their grief and celebrated his life.
“My brother was the life of the party; he was a legend in Garfield,” Ervin’s sister expressed. “Everybody loved him—from the police to the kids, teachers, and families.”
According to Garfield Heights police, Ervin was killed early Friday morning after an argument with the shooter near Turney and McCracken Roads. His family is now urging the suspect to come forward.
“We’re hurting,” Ervin’s sister said. “We just want that guy to turn himself in. You’re on the run for no reason; you’ll always have to run.”
Ervin is survived by his pregnant wife and twins, who he cherished deeply. Last year, 19 News featured a story on the unique bond Ervin shared with his wife and children, as they all celebrated their birthdays on the same day.
“Now, just over a year later, we’re covering his death, his murder for no reason,” Ervin’s sister lamented.
The Garfield Heights Police Department confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
