Ohio Governor DeWine Activates Disaster Relief for 11 Counties Affected by Severe Weather
Governor Mike DeWine has activated the State Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) to assist nearly a dozen counties in Ohio that have been significantly affected by severe weather events this year. The announcement came on Friday, coinciding with heavy rain and strong winds resulting from the remnants of Hurricane Helene.
The SDRP serves as a reimbursement initiative for cases where the damages from storms do not reach the federal assistance threshold but still meet the requirements for state support. According to the governor’s office, the program aims to provide supplemental aid to local governments and eligible private nonprofit organizations for costs related to debris removal, emergency protective measures, and permanent repairs.
The following 11 counties will benefit from the SDRP:
- Monroe County: Affected by flooding and severe storms on January 24-25.
- Belmont, Guernsey, Jefferson, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, and Washington counties: Impacted by flooding and severe storms from April 1-4.
- Darke and Mercer counties: Experienced tornadoes on May 7-8.
- Cuyahoga County: Affected by tornadoes and severe storms on August 6.
This program is a crucial step in supporting communities as they recover from the adverse effects of severe weather.
