Three Individuals Face Charges in Connection with Liam Payne’s Tragic Death
Following a comprehensive investigation, Argentine authorities have charged three individuals in connection with the October death of pop singer and former One Direction member Liam Payne.
The 31-year-old singer reportedly fell from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16. Staff at the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo district alerted police, describing a guest who appeared “overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol.” Police arrived minutes before the fatal fall, and Payne was pronounced dead at the scene.
Just over a week later, investigators seized hotel security footage, computer hard drives, and other evidence from the hotel. Early findings indicated that Payne was alone at the time of the incident and experiencing what officials described as a “breakdown.”
On Thursday, Argentine authorities confirmed three people have been charged with abandonment of a person resulting in death and supplying narcotics. One of the suspects reportedly spent significant time with Payne during his stay, another is a hotel employee accused of providing cocaine, and the third is believed to be a drug supplier.
An initial toxicology report found cocaine in Payne’s system, along with alcohol and a prescription antidepressant. Authorities suspect Payne may have been in a state of diminished consciousness at the time of his fall, noting the absence of self-defense or preservation reflexes.
Though Payne was alone at the time of the fall, police interviewed several hotel employees and two women who had visited him earlier. Investigators found Payne’s room in disarray, with broken items and various medications, including clonazepam. A whiskey bottle, lighter, and cellphone were found near where Payne fell.
Payne’s body has since been returned to his family. The investigation continues, with no further details released.
