“Browns Evaluate CB Options as Denzel Ward Faces Injury Concerns in Week 3”
The Cleveland Browns made a strong comeback in Week 2, securing an 18-13 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars after a disappointing double-digit loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. However, the win came with a price as the team sustained significant injuries.
Wide receiver David Bell suffered a season-ending hip injury that will require surgery, while cornerback Denzel Ward is dealing with a shoulder injury. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated on Sunday that Ward was limited by his shoulder issue, but further details on his condition remain scarce.
To bolster their defense, the Browns worked out cornerback Christian Holmes on Tuesday. Holmes, who was recently waived by the New York Giants after spending the preseason with them, previously played with the Washington Commanders. The 6-foot-1 defensive back was drafted by Washington in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has since appeared in 30 games over two seasons.
During his time with the Commanders, Holmes accumulated 20 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a pass deflection. Last season, he recorded eight tackles and another pass deflection across 13 games. With his experience, including 33 defensive snaps and 284 special teams snaps, it’s possible the Browns could sign Holmes to provide depth if Ward is unable to play in the upcoming game.
