“Cleveland Mother Pleads for Help as Home Falls Apart: ‘I Need You to Care’”
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) — A Cleveland mother of two is facing a dire situation as her kitchen deteriorates due to severe water damage, and she feels trapped with no help in sight.
Dyonna Huggins, who lives on Iowa Avenue, has been dealing with extensive damage in her home caused by poor repairs in the bathroom above. The resulting water damage has led to a collapsing ceiling, destroyed kitchen, soaked floors, and water spilling into the basement.
This is not the first time Huggins has faced such issues. “Two years ago, they fixed the ceiling after similar damage, but it happened again,” Huggins explained. “The people they sent to fix it didn’t seem to know how to handle the situation properly.”
Despite numerous attempts to contact her landlord for repairs, Huggins says she has not received any response. She is currently waiting for approval to move to a new place while living in a home that is actively falling apart, with previous CMHA inspections showing multiple failures.
“As the water continues to drip, I’m afraid it’s going to cause further damage or even collapse. I don’t want my children and me to be put in harm’s way,” Huggins said.
After 19 News contacted the landlord’s representative, no response was received. However, after reaching out to the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), Huggins’ inspection was expedited to this week.
19 News will continue to follow up with CMHA to ensure Huggins and her family are moved to a safe living environment as quickly as possible.
“They claim to care, but I need them to show it by getting my family out of this dangerous situation,” Huggins stated.
