“Man Dies in Cleveland Cooking Fire: Firefighters Report Incident”

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) — A fire at an apartment building on New York Avenue early Friday morning has resulted in one fatality and displaced two residents.

The Cleveland Fire Department responded to the blaze in a duplex located in the 7600 block of New York Avenue at approximately 3:23 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find a 50-year-old man with severe burn injuries and in full cardiac arrest.

According to Cleveland Fire, the man’s injuries suggested he may have been trying to extinguish the fire himself. Cleveland EMS transported him in critical condition to MetroHealth, where he was later pronounced dead.

The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damages. Cleveland Fire indicated that the blaze may have started unintentionally, possibly due to cooking.

The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the two adults residing in the upstairs unit. Fortunately, no firefighters were injured in the incident.
