First Charges Filed Against Suspect in Shooting at Cleveland Police: I-Team Report
Cleveland city officials have confirmed to the FOX 8 I-Team that Wayne Agosto, 32, from Newburgh Heights, is now facing nine charges of attempted murder following an incident on Monday evening in which he allegedly shot at police officers.
Agosto is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and will be transferred to the Cuyahoga County jail once he recovers.
Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Andy Gasiewski reported that the shooting occurred in the 3000 block of Denison Avenue, near the W. 31st Street intersection. Police Chief Dorothy Todd stated that officers were surveilling the area around 6:30 p.m. in connection with several violent crimes when they spotted the suspects.
“When the officers identified the suspects, they came under gunfire. The officers returned fire, and we know that one suspect was hit,” Chief Todd explained.
Agosto was detained at the scene and taken to the hospital for treatment. A second suspect was arrested the following day. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the exchange.
According to records from Cleveland Municipal Court, a robbery warrant had been issued for Agosto on October 17.
