Green Onions Recalled as Salmonella Threat Prompts Urgent Action
According to News Week, Green onions are being recalled after a product sample tested positive for salmonella, a bacteria that can cause serious or potentially fatal infections in certain individuals.
Details of the Recall
Church Brothers is voluntarily recalling 1,271 cases of green onions sold under the brands Church Brothers, Imperial Fresh, and Trader Joe’s due to concerns over salmonella contamination. The bacteria was detected in a product sample by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which subsequently reported the findings to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall was announced on Friday, October 18.
Distribution of Affected Products
The contaminated green onions were distributed to stores and food-service customers across Canada and 11 states in the U.S.: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The affected products bear the lot code CB272378 on the front of the clear plastic bag packaging for those sold under the Church Brothers or Imperial Fresh brands. For the Trader Joe’s packaging, the same lot code can be found on the back of the packet, along with the pack date 092524.
