“Severe Weather in Northeast Ohio: New Footage Shows the Storm’s Impact”

Severe weather, including tornadoes, recently swept through Northeast Ohio, and six weeks later, the costs of the damage continue to rise.

City of Cleveland security cameras captured the storm’s intensity, revealing footage that offers a unique perspective on the chaotic weather. One camera recorded blinding rain and ferocious winds bending trees, while other clips showed vehicles struggling through unexpectedly deep floodwaters on city streets.

The storms caused significant damage, knocking out power to homes and even affecting operations at Hopkins Airport. This new footage prompted a renewed examination of the storm’s impact on Cleveland and Brook Park.

Earlier reports highlighted how a tornado ripped the roof off the Brook Park Recreation Center. Recreation Director Chris Wetmore expressed a desire to reopen the facility, showing I-Team crews the ongoing repairs. Patches on the roof illustrate the extensive work that remains, with Brook Park now estimating over $8 million in damage from the tornado.

City leaders are relieved that, despite the extensive damage, there were no injuries or fatalities. “We count our blessings and are thrilled that no one was hurt,” Wetmore said.

Interestingly, the most intense wind and rain lasted only a few minutes, yet officials in Brook Park noted that it caused several million dollars worth of damage in just about two minutes.

The video also captures emergency crews responding to calls during the storm. The City of Cleveland is now tallying the total cost of the damage and has requested that residents report any storm-related damage to ensure an accurate assessment.

As of now, it remains unclear what state or federal aid might be available to assist with repairs, but the new footage powerfully illustrates the storm’s fury and its devastating effects.
