SPEED AHEAD: Drivers to get payment in line with faulty engine part settlement – an internet check determines whether they get cash

Drivers across the U.S. may be eligible for compensation from a settlement if they owned or currently own specific Mazda models. The payout could also extend to those who have recently changed their vehicle. Mazda has agreed to a settlement over an engine fault that caused certain cars to consume more oil than usual.

Models Affected by the Settlement

The settlement impacts drivers who own or have owned the 2021-2022 Mazda CX-30, 2021 Mazda 6, and the 2021 Mazda CX-5. The issue stems from a faulty valve stem seal, which led to excessive oil consumption. Many drivers reported that the defect forced them to pay for frequent oil refills and changes.

Settlement Details and Eligibility

While Mazda has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to settle the claims and offer compensation. Drivers can check their eligibility by entering their vehicle’s VIN number into an online database. To qualify for payment, claims must be submitted by November 30, and can be filed either online or by mailing documents to a location in Seattle, Washington.

Although a court hearing was held on September 16 to approve the settlement, drivers are encouraged to be patient as claims and appeals may delay the payment process. The deadline to object to the settlement has already passed (June 27).

Compensation and Benefits for Drivers

Drivers who are entitled to compensation under the settlement will receive several benefits, including:

  • Replacement of the faulty valve stem
  • Extension of Mazda’s Powertrain Limited Warranty
  • Reimbursement for oil refills and repairs
  • Free vehicle repair services for loaned cars

Additional Mazda Settlements

This is not the only settlement Mazda has agreed to. The automaker is also paying out around $172 million in a separate settlement that could benefit up to 1 million people. The lawsuit in this case involved more than 600,000 vehicles with faulty fuel pumps that could fail. Mazda even recalled over 100,000 cars due to the issue. Under the terms of this settlement, Mazda will cover the costs of repairs, offer extended warranties, and provide free towing services for affected drivers.
