Local Woman’s Body Discovered in Suitcase in Las Vegas

A woman whose body was discovered stuffed inside luggage in Las Vegas earlier this month has been identified as Kristen Avelar, a 46-year-old resident from Middleburg Heights, Ohio. This confirmation comes from a spokesperson with the Berea City School District, who noted that Avelar was a graduate of Midpark High School, Class of 1996.

Las Vegas police were called to the scene on October 3 at approximately 4:20 p.m., following reports of a body near Spencer Street and East Reno Avenue, close to Harry Reid International Airport. Upon arrival, officers found Avelar’s body inside a suitcase near an apartment complex in the area.

Due to the “suspicious nature” of her death, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide section has taken over the investigation.
