Harley-Davidson Fans Say Goodbye: Dealership Owner Sells After 26 Years of Legendary Service

According to The Sun, A long-standing Harley-Davidson dealership, Reiman’s Harley-Davidson, has officially closed its doors after 26 years under current ownership. The dealership, located in Kewanee, Illinois, is now facing an uncertain future as it transitions to new ownership.

Final Day of Business

On Saturday, the dealership held its last day of business, offering only merchandise for sale and accepting cash-only transactions. The decision to sell was announced earlier this summer via a Facebook post, marking the end of an era for the family-owned business.

A Legacy in the Community

The Reiman family has operated the dealership for over a quarter of a century, having inherited it from legendary motorcycle champion Roger Reiman. Known for his impressive racing career, including three Daytona 200 victories and as the head mechanic for daredevil Evel Knievel, Reiman tragically passed away in 1997 in a motorcycle accident. Dennis Packee, Scott’s father, took over the dealership that same year and led it to success, with Scott eventually stepping in to run the business.

A Change in Priorities

Scott Packee shared that the decision to sell came after he and his father realized they wanted to spend more time together, especially as his father approaches 80. Reflecting on their time, he noted, “It is time for us to actually be able to go out and actually go for a ride… We haven’t got to do that in 26 years, basically.”

He also addressed rumors circulating on social media about the sale, emphasizing that the decision was thoughtfully considered.

Transition to New Ownership

The dealership is being sold to Walter Brothers Harley Davidson, located in Peoria, Illinois. The sale is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.

Customer Reactions

Many loyal customers expressed disappointment over the sale. One customer, Colin, praised Reiman’s as a “great local HD dealership for many years,” hoping the new owners maintain a family-oriented atmosphere. Another customer, Tyler, expressed gratitude for the dealership’s reputation, saying, “Reimans has been a beacon of fairness and honesty where other dealers have fallen short.”

As the Kewanee community prepares for this transition, the future of Reiman’s Harley-Davidson remains a topic of conversation among its dedicated patrons.
