“‘Unhinged’ Payment Options: Walmart Shoppers Demand Apple Pay Amid Boycott Threats”
According to The Sun, Angry shoppers are threatening to boycott Walmart due to the retailer’s refusal to accept Apple Pay, prompting a wave of complaints on social media. Many customers have branded this decision as “unhinged,” expressing frustration over the lack of quick payment options.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) expressed their dissatisfaction, stating, “This is why I don’t shop at Walmart.” Another chimed in, questioning, “How y’all don’t take Apple Pay?” These sentiments reflect a growing frustration among customers who expect modern payment solutions.
Walmart’s Payment Methods
Walmart currently does not accept Apple Pay for in-store, online, or self-checkout purchases. Instead, the retail giant has developed its own digital payment platform, Walmart Pay. To use this service, customers must download the Walmart app, select their payment method, and scan a QR code at the register. Other accepted payment options include credit/debit cards, cash, and gift cards.
Rising Frustration Among Shoppers
The refusal to offer Apple Pay is not the only issue sparking customer outrage. Many shoppers have expressed frustration over Walmart’s self-checkout systems. One customer recounted a particularly unpleasant experience, describing how an employee began removing items from their cart and even damaged their groceries with a utility knife. The shopper stated, “I left about $200 worth of food there,” illustrating the growing discontent with the retailer’s customer service.

Similar Incidents at Other Retailers
Walmart is not alone in facing customer dissatisfaction. Other retailers, such as Sam’s Club and Kroger, have also experienced abandoned carts from frustrated shoppers over checkout issues. A Sam’s Club customer left behind $270 worth of items due to checkout problems, while a Kroger shopper abandoned $200 worth of groceries over a policy change, highlighting a trend of growing frustration among consumers.
As the debate over payment options continues, it remains to be seen how Walmart will address these customer concerns.
