Cleveland Police Arrest Three Juveniles Linked to Car Smash-and-Grabs

An investigation into a series of car break-ins that occurred over the weekend resulted in the arrest of three minors, according to the Cleveland Division of Police.

Authorities believe the juveniles were responsible for breaking windows and stealing from several vehicles parked on Prospect Avenue during the Megadeth concert on Sunday evening. One concertgoer reported that his window was smashed, and his glasses, inhaler, and other medications were taken.

On Monday night, the crime spree continued, with nearly two dozen vehicles targeted near Gordon Square while a film was being shown inside the Capital Theater. Moviegoers were met with a grim surprise as they exited the theater, finding glass scattered across the parking lot from the shattered windows.

Henry Weber, whose vehicle was also broken into, shared his experience: “They shattered my window and rummaged through my stuff. Thankfully, they didn’t take anything. It seems they didn’t take much from other people either.”

Mike Polensek, chairman of the Cleveland City Council’s Public Safety Committee, speculated that the culprits were likely searching for firearms. He is advocating for state lawmakers to impose stricter laws regarding vehicle break-ins.

“It’s time to increase penalties for breaking into vehicles, as well as for car thefts and carjackings in our state,” Polensek stated.
