BIG PAYDAY: Millions of Americans won’t see $1,415 checks for entire month – but there’s a reason you won’t miss out

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients should be aware that there will be no SSI checks distributed during September due to a scheduling anomaly. The maximum monthly benefit for an individual in 2024 is $943, and $1,415 for couples if both qualify, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Payment Schedule Disruption

Because September 1 fell on a Sunday this year, the payment intended for September was distributed early on Friday, August 30. As a result, SSI beneficiaries will not receive a separate payment in September. The next SSI payment will be issued on October 1.

August Payments and Historical Scheduling

Although there will be no September check, recipients will not miss out on any money. Beneficiaries received two payments in August—one on the 1st and another on the 30th. This situation mirrors a similar occurrence earlier in the year when payments were distributed on Friday, May 31, instead of Saturday, June 1. Those who did not receive a payment in June had to wait until Monday, July 1, for the next check.

Upcoming Payment Adjustments

This scheduling anomaly will occur again in November when SSI recipients will receive two payments: one on November 1 and another on November 29. Typically, SSI payments are distributed on the first of every month unless affected by a holiday or weekend.

Who Receives SSI Payments

SSI payments are provided to adults and children with disabilities or blindness who have income and resources below certain financial limits. They are also available to individuals aged 65 and older who meet financial qualifications, regardless of disability.

Distinction from Social Security Retirement Benefits

It’s important to differentiate SSI payments from Social Security retirement benefits. Social Security beneficiaries receive their checks based on their birth date, with payments distributed on three Wednesdays each month:

  • Birth Date Between the 1st and 10th: Payment on the second Wednesday of each month.
  • Birth Date Between the 11th and 20th: Payment on the third Wednesday of each month.
  • Birth Date Between the 21st and 31st: Payment on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Impact on SSDI Recipients

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) recipients generally follow the same payment schedule as Social Security retirees.

Additional Payment Information

For more information on direct payments, The U.S. Sun has highlighted recent benefits such as a $500 payment provided to families last month, with a total of $9,000 distributed over several months. Additionally, California residents within specific zip codes may benefit from the expanded Long Beach Pledge Guaranteed Income Pilot, as detailed on its website.
