Americans: Last Days to File for $15k in $1.3M UnitedLex Settlement

According to The Sun , Certain Americans may soon receive significant one-time payments from a recent data breach settlement involving UnitedLex, a legal data analytics provider. The settlement follows a class action lawsuit claiming UnitedLex failed to prevent a cyberattack that compromised sensitive data, including Social Security numbers, financial account details, and names of beneficiaries, contractors, and employees.

UnitedLex Settlement Details

UnitedLex, while not admitting liability, has agreed to a $1.3 million settlement to resolve these claims. This fund is intended to cover various benefits for affected individuals, including reimbursement for expenses related to identity theft and other losses.

Who’s Eligible?

To qualify, individuals must be current or former beneficiaries, contractors, or employees with UnitedLex and have had personal information potentially impacted by the March 2023 data breach. Automatically eligible individuals would have received a Claim ID and PIN through email or postal mail, alerting them to the breach risk.

How to File a Claim

Eligible individuals can file claims online using their Claim ID and PIN. If these details are unavailable, the claim can still be filed through an alternative verification option on the settlement website. Forms are also downloadable under “Case Documents” on the site and can be mailed to the settlement administrator. The deadline to file is November 12, 2024.

Settlement Benefits

Approved claimants are eligible for benefits including:

• Up to $15,000 in reimbursements for documented expenses such as identity theft-related costs, bank fees, and credit costs.
• $500 for lost time spent dealing with issues caused by the data breach.
• Free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through July 11, 2027.

After qualifying claimants are reimbursed, remaining funds will be distributed on a pro-rata basis. UnitedLex has also pledged to strengthen its cybersecurity practices. A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for December 10, 2024.

Upcoming Deadlines in Other Settlements

In addition to the UnitedLex settlement, eligible Americans should be aware of deadlines for other settlements:

• A data breach settlement from an accounts receivable company is offering $100 payments, with claims due by November 12.
• The Paycom settlement offers up to $4,200, but the claim deadline was November 7.
