No SSI Payment on December 1: New Payday Announced by Social Security
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program does not always maintain a consistent schedule for monthly payments. Typically, direct deposits and checks are issued on the first day of each month. However, when this date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the Social Security Administration (SSA) adjusts the payment schedule accordingly.
For December 2024, the SSI payment originally scheduled for December 1 has been moved to an earlier date. To avoid delays, the SSA will issue direct deposits and checks on November 29, 2024—48 hours in advance of the usual payment date.
SSI Payment Amounts for November 29, 2024
If you remain eligible for SSI and your financial or personal circumstances have not changed, you can expect to receive the same payment amount as you did on November 1, 2024. The average SSI payment is approximately $697, which is a slight decrease from the previous amount of $698. Below are the average payment amounts for different recipient groups:
- Average SSI for all beneficiaries: $697
- Average SSI for recipients under 18: $813
- Average SSI for recipients aged 18-64: $743
- Average SSI for recipients aged 65 and older: $574
It’s important for SSI recipients who have experienced significant life changes—such as marriage or starting a job—to report these changes to the SSA, as they may affect your payment amount. Depending on your situation, your payment could be higher or lower.

Will the November 29 Payment Include the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)?
The SSI payment scheduled for November 29 will not include the 2025 COLA increase. Recipients will have to wait until December 31, 2024, to receive the benefits of this adjustment.
While Social Security recipients on retirement or disability (SSDI) benefits will see their first increased payments from January 3 through January 22, 2025, those on Supplemental Security Income will receive their COLA increase much sooner.
