Discovery of Allergen

The undeclared egg allergen was identified by a Grand Central Bakery employee after distribution had begun. Claire Randall, the chief executive of Grand Central Bakery, stated, “The pie dough products made during the listed sales and expiration date range are safe to consume for anyone without an egg allergy. The presence of egg does not affect the quality or taste.”

FDA Allergen Regulations

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The presence of egg was discovered through internal checks, and the company is cooperating closely with the FDA to follow appropriate protocols.

Eggs are one of the nine major allergens recognized by the FDA, which also include wheat, milk, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, shellfish, fish, and sesame. Those allergic to eggs may experience symptoms such as hives, vomiting, throat swelling, and difficulty breathing. In severe cases, allergic reactions can escalate to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

The FDA’s strict labeling laws require that any product containing these allergens must clearly disclose them on the packaging.
