Lidl’s Growth in the US: Opening New Locations Despite Consumer Doubts
According to The Sun, A major grocery chain and rival to Aldi, Lidl, is forging ahead with its expansion in the U.S. by opening a new store in the Bronx, New York, on October 23. Despite facing challenges, Lidl continues to draw crowds for its grand openings, with shoppers often forming lengthy queues outside its stores.
GRAND OPENING DETAILS
The new store will be situated at 700 Exterior St., Bronx, NY 10451, and local leaders are set to welcome Lidl to the community during a ribbon-cutting event that begins at 7:40 a.m. This will be followed by a grand opening celebration featuring special offers for eager shoppers. The store will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
This latest location is part of Lidl’s expanding store network in the New York City area, joining existing stores in Harlem, Glen Oaks, and Weehawken, among others. The new store is expected to create approximately 48 new jobs for the community.
INCENTIVES FOR SHOPPERS
During the grand opening event, the first 100 customers in line before the store opens at 8:00 a.m. will receive a special gift card worth between $5 and an impressive $100 each. Shoppers will also have the opportunity to sample Lidl’s diverse product offerings and participate in special giveaways.

Earlier in September, Lidl opened another branch in Forsyth, Georgia, which saw enthusiastic crowds lining up throughout the night for the much-anticipated event.

While many shoppers are excited about the new store, some commenters express skepticism regarding the hype surrounding Lidl. One user on Facebook noted, “So what if I stood in line to go to a new grocery store,” highlighting their satisfaction with the selection. However, others were less impressed, with one commenting, “It’s a grocery store people. Y’all have way too much free time on your hands,” while another added, “I don’t get it. Nothing would make me stand in line for groceries for subpar food.”
