Grocery Store Giant Gordon Food Service Shuts Down, Leaving Customers Disappointed

According to The Sun, Today marks the final day for shoppers at the Gordon Food Service store in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. An employee confirmed that the store, located at 2609 S Oneida St, Green Bay, will serve its last customer today, October 11. While the store typically operates until 8 PM, it will close early at 5 PM.

A notice left on the door on September 27 informed customers of the new hours. This closure reduces the number of Gordon Food Service locations in northeastern Wisconsin to just one, leaving the state with only six locations in total, including a distribution center.

Community Reaction

The community has taken to social media to express their disappointment over the store’s closure. Many speculate that competition from nearby retailers like Sam’s Club and Costco contributed to the decision. One Facebook user commented, “Probably don’t get enough business with Sam’s [Club] and Costco,” highlighting the challenges faced by the grocery store.

Retail Closures on the Rise

Gordon Food Service is not alone in facing store closures. Amazon Go recently announced the shutdown of three locations in New York City. A spokesperson for Amazon stated that the decision was made during the lease renewal evaluation process. Despite the stores performing well, the economics of the lease did not align with the company’s goals.

The closed locations include 11 West 42nd Street, One Liberty, and 30 Rockefeller Center. In addition, Natural Grocers plans to close its Downtown Denver store, with the final day set for October 31. Sales are already underway, offering customers a 10% discount on all products. However, locations in City Park West, Capitol Hill, Baker, and Cherry Creek will remain open for shoppers.
