Slammin’ Sammy’s Stolen BBQ Grill Recovered, Suspect Arrested
A Cleveland businessman is set to have one of his cherished possessions returned after it was stolen from a parking lot where he has been serving food for nearly a decade.
On September 25, Sam Spain discussed the theft of his red mobile grill and kitchen, which was taken from the East 83rd Street and Cedar Avenue area. “People often call me and say, ‘I knew you were cooking. We smelled it,'” Spain recalled.
Spain expressed disbelief over the theft, feeling it was an attempt to push him out of business. “I don’t know why this happened, but in this community, we stand by our businesses. So that’s not going to work,” he stated.
Surveillance footage captured two SUVs entering the parking lot, one of which backed up to the grill and hitched it before both vehicles drove away, despite Spain’s attempts to secure the grill with locks.
On Tuesday, Cleveland police announced that the grill had been found on the city’s east side on September 27. Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz emphasized the dedication of officers and detectives in solving property crimes and praised their successful efforts in locating the stolen grill.
“We’re grateful that we were able to recover this grill and make an arrest,” Diaz said. “We want to send a message that the Cleveland Division of Police is committed to investigating these crimes and delivering results.”
A Cleveland man has been arrested and charged with felony receiving stolen property in connection with the incident.
