Waffle Cones Nationwide Recall: FDA Sets Serious Risk Level for Allergens
According to Newsweek , Hammond’s Candies issued a recall for its Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones after a consumer reported an allergic reaction to milk, a hidden allergen in the product. Initially, the product’s packaging stated that it did not contain milk, but further testing revealed more than trace amounts of milk present, necessitating the recall. The product, which contains other allergens like wheat, soy, and coconut, is packaged in 4oz resealable pouches and has been distributed in 38 states and Washington D.C.
The recall, initiated on August 30, has been classified by the FDA as a Class II risk, which indicates a low likelihood of serious adverse health consequences, though temporary or medically reversible health issues may occur. The affected products have “use by” dates ranging from October 3, 2024, to March 1, 2025.
No further allergic reactions have been reported, but Hammond’s Candies continues to investigate the source of the contamination. The recall impacts nearly 30,000 units of the waffle cones. Consumers who purchased the recalled items are urged to return them for a refund.
