Tuesday School Closures in Ohio: 3 Districts Respond to Threats
At least three school districts in Northeast Ohio experienced closures on Tuesday due to various threats.
In Cleveland, the Cleveland Arts and Social Sciences Academy was closed for the day “for the safety and security of staff and scholars,” as announced by school leaders on social media. The closure followed information about a potential attack targeting middle school students, according to WJW in Cleveland.
Lorain City Schools and Clearview Local Schools also shut their doors on Tuesday. Lorain High School and the district’s central office were closed after local police were alerted by the FBI about a threat posted on social media. WOIO in Cleveland reported that an investigation led to the confession of a 12-year-old girl, who admitted to writing the threat as a joke. She had no means to act on it and has been summoned to juvenile court for inducing panic.
In Clearview, both Clearview High School and Durling Middle School were closed due to a bomb threat made against the high school on Monday night. Lorain County Sheriff deputies conducted searches with bomb-sniffing dogs at both schools, but no explosives were found. Both Clearview High School and Durling Middle School are expected to reopen on Wednesday.
