SSI Payments of Up to $472 for Eligible Beneficiaries – New Payment Date Announced
According to Vibes.okdiario , Not all Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients receive the same payment amount. While many believe the SSI program is funded by Social Security, it is actually financed by the Federal Government, not by the Social Security Administration (SSA). SSI is designed to provide financial support to low-income individuals, and the payment amounts vary based on eligibility and specific circumstances.
For example, an essential person can receive up to $472, while an individual who is blind, disabled, or at least 65 years old and has a low income or few resources can receive up to $943. Eligible married couples can receive a maximum monthly payment of $1,415. These amounts do not yet include the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2025.
New SSI Payment Date for December
All eligible SSI recipients received their November payments on November 1, 2024, either by check or direct deposit. However, you may notice that there is no SSI payment scheduled for December 1. This payment hasn’t been canceled; instead, it has been rescheduled to be issued two days earlier, on November 29, 2024. Essentially, this means SSI recipients will receive two payments in November—one for November and another in advance for December.

Why is There an SSI Payment in Late December?
Due to the upcoming federal holiday on January 1, 2025, the SSA cannot issue the January 2025 SSI payment on that date. As a result, SSA will issue the January payment on December 31, 2024. This early payment will also include the 2025 COLA increase, which means that approximately 7.5 million SSI recipients will receive the new, adjusted payment amounts before other Social Security recipients.
Here are the maximum SSI benefits for December 31, 2024:
- For an essential person: $484
- For an individual: $967
- For a married couple: $1,450
These adjusted amounts reflect the upcoming COLA increase for 2025, ensuring that SSI recipients see a higher benefit just in time for the new year.
