“Orrville Police Department’s First K-9, Freddie, Dies: A Tribute to a Brave Hero”

ORRVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) — The Orrville Police Department is mourning the loss of retired K-9 Freddie, who passed away on the afternoon of September 13.

The department expressed its heartbreak, noting that Freddie’s health had been declining in recent times. Freddie, who joined the Orrville Police Department as its first canine on December 12, 2012, played a pivotal role in establishing the K-9 program.

“Freddie was an exceptional K-9, and we could not have asked for a better start to our program,” said the OPD. Freddie worked alongside his handler, Officer Smith, enforcing laws and contributing significantly to the program’s success. “They were an excellent team!” the department added.
