Orlando Shooting Incident: Two Confirmed Dead and Eight Shot, Says Police Chief
Authorities are investigating a shooting incident in Orlando, Florida, early Friday morning that resulted in two fatalities and multiple injuries. Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith provided details during a press briefing, confirming that the department is aware of eight victims in total.
Details of the Incident
The shooting occurred around 1:07 a.m. at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue, with a subsequent report of shots fired shortly after, south of Washington Street on Orange Avenue. Officers responded swiftly, with video footage showing crowds fleeing the scene and an officer tackling the suspect to the ground. Chief Smith noted that no shots were fired by police during the incident.
Suspect in Custody
A 17-year-old suspect named Jaylen Dwayne Edgar has been taken into custody. According to Chief Smith, Edgar was previously arrested in 2023 for grand theft. He is facing serious charges, including two counts of First-Degree Murder with a Firearm and six counts of Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm, as confirmed by the Orlando Police Department on Twitter.

Victims Identified
The two deceased victims are identified as a 25-year-old male and a 19-year-old male. The other victims include:
- An 18-year-old male shot in the lower left leg
- A 39-year-old female shot in the left hand
- A 24-year-old female shot in the left leg
- A 20-year-old male grazed in the head
- A 26-year-old male shot in the right foot
- A 19-year-old female shot in the upper back, with the bullet lodging in her cheek
Additionally, a ninth victim, a 26-year-old female, was reported to have been trampled during the chaos as people fled the scene.
