New Payment Option Available at 750 Convenience Store Locations—No Cash, No Card

According to The Sun , Convenience store giant Sheetz is making waves in the digital currency space by expanding its cryptocurrency payment options to all 750-plus locations. After testing the waters in 2021, Sheetz has fully embraced the growing trend, allowing customers to pay for items such as snacks, gas, and coffee using Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other popular digital currencies.

The move comes in response to the increasing popularity of alternative currencies, particularly among younger consumers who favor the flexibility and security of digital payments. Sheetz’s executive vice president of Marketing and Supply Chain, Ryan Sheetz, expressed excitement about the shift: “We’ve always been committed to giving our customers more payment options. We’re excited to make digital currency payments available at all our stores and to meet the growing interest in stablecoins among our customers.”

Based in Pennsylvania, Sheetz operates hundreds of stores across West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina. The new crypto payment option was made possible through a partnership with digital payment company Flexa, which was announced last week.

While digital currencies aren’t yet common in convenience stores, Sheetz joins a growing list of retailers embracing the future of payments. Other stores, like Jacksons Food Stores and GetGo Cafe + Market, have installed crypto ATMs, allowing customers to add digital coins to their wallets. Meanwhile, chains like 7-Eleven, QuikTrip, and Wawa have ventured into non-fungible tokens (NFTs), another blockchain-based asset.
