Miller Road Park Closed for Hours Following Suicide Incident
Miller Road Park in Avon Lake was closed for several hours on Tuesday following a tragic incident involving a suicide.
Avon Lake Police received a call at 12:53 p.m. reporting that a man had shot himself at the park. Upon arrival, officers discovered an elderly man deceased on the western side of the park, as detailed in a news release by Avon Lake Police Lieutenant Fran Tibbitts.
Avon Lake Fire paramedics also responded to the scene, and the Lorain County coroner was notified. The cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police have not released the man’s identity.
The park was temporarily closed during the initial investigation, with updates provided on Avon Lake’s Facebook page. It was reopened to the public at 2:40 p.m.
