McKnight’s Senior Living Earns Five Awards, Including Best of Show, in SPJ Contest
McKnight’s Senior Living has made a remarkable impact at the 2024 Ohio’s Best Journalism Contest, securing a total of five awards, including two prestigious Best of Show honors. The competition, organized by the Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists, recognized outstanding achievements in business-to-business media.
Best of Show Honors
McKnight’s Senior Living clinched first place in the Best of Show – Best Trade Publication category with its magazine, McKnight’s Senior Living. The award acknowledged the collective efforts of the editorial team, including Editorial Director John O’Connor, Editor Lois Bowers, Content Editor Kimberly Bonvissuto, Senior Art Director Monica Pizzi, Graphic Designer Aminah Beg, Special Projects Coordinator Foster Stubbs, and writers Kathleen Steele Gaivin, Aaron Dorman, and John Hall.
In addition, Editor Lois Bowers won first place in the Best of Show – Best Trade Columnist category for her insightful columns. Her award-winning pieces included “The Golden Bachelor Could Be a Golden Opportunity” and “A Big Lump of Coal … and an Opportunity.”
Website and Reporting Excellence
McKnight’s Senior Living also excelled in the digital space, winning first place in the Best Trade Publication Website category for its site, mcknightsseniorliving.com. The honor was given to the same team behind the magazine, highlighting their comprehensive work across both print and online platforms.
In the Best Trade Report category, McKnight’s Senior Living achieved both first and second place. The first-place report, “CMS’ HCBS Access Rule Adds Burdens, Industry Says,” was authored by Bowers. The second-place report, “Quality, Safety, Accountability Vital, Industry Leaders Say, as Washington Post Report Cites Deaths at ‘Dangerously Understaffed’ Communities,” was also by Bowers, with additional reporting by Bonvissuto.
