Americans may qualify for cash payments from a $115 million settlement related to a privacy class action lawsuit against Oracle, a cloud applications provider. This cash opportunity arises after Oracle agreed to a payout to resolve allegations surrounding the illegal collection of personal information.
Allegations Against Oracle
The lawsuit claims that Oracle illegally collected personal data from the internet and sold it to third parties for advertising purposes. It alleges that the company tracked users’ web activity, in-store purchases, geolocation, and other personal information without obtaining consumer consent. This information was reportedly sold to various third parties for advertising use.
Oracle collaborates with notable companies such as Uber, AMC, and MGM Resorts. The settlement will benefit individuals whose personal information was collected by Oracle or made available through services like ID Graph, Data Marketplace, or other Oracle advertising products since August 19, 2018.
Settlement Terms and Conditions
While Oracle has not admitted to any wrongdoing, it has agreed to the multi-million dollar settlement to resolve the data privacy lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, class members will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. However, the exact payment amount will vary depending on the number of claims filed and the fees deducted from the total fund.
In addition to the financial settlement, Oracle has committed to not capturing user-generated information from referrer websites or forms on its own site. The company will also implement an audit program to review its privacy obligations moving forward.
Key Deadlines for Class Members
- Exclusion and Objection Deadline: October 17
- Claim Form Submission Deadline: October 17
- Final Approval Hearing for the Settlement: November 14, 2024
Additional Settlement Opportunities
In related news, Visa and Mastercard customers may also be eligible for payments from a significant $197.5 million settlement. This settlement resolves a class action lawsuit alleging that the companies charged unlawful surcharges on ATM transactions, such as cash withdrawals. Both Visa and Mastercard agreed to the settlement after being accused of violating federal antitrust laws.
Moreover, Americans may qualify for over $7,000 from a $3.25 million settlement related to a data breach involving See Tickets. The company reportedly failed to protect consumer information following a data breach in September 2023. While See Tickets denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
