“I-Team Investigation: Details Revealed in Citizen’s Complaint About Cleveland Mayor’s Crash”
This week, we uncovered that a new investigation has been initiated following an anonymous complaint calling for the Office of Professional Standards to scrutinize both the mayor and the Cleveland Division of Police (CDP).
The complaint specifically stated, “I also demand that you look at the police report. They have a history of not filing and lying on them. I do not trust the mayor or CDP.”
The complaint arises from a June incident in which a police officer, driving the mayor, activated emergency lights and ran a red light, resulting in a crash. To date, there has been no ticket issued and no internal discipline related to the incident.
The investigation into this complaint is currently on hold while the Office of Professional Standards reviews the citizen’s allegations. The other driver involved in the crash reported having the green light at the time of the incident, a claim supported by a witness.
The head of the Office of Professional Standards has indicated that he does not expect the review of the citizen’s complaint to take long and noted that it could potentially lead to disciplinary action.
