Consumer Advisory
The FDA has advised consumers to check their freezers for any recalled products, which were distributed across all U.S. states and Canadian provinces. The affected products were sold in various stores, including Albertsons, Aldi, Dollar General, Kroger, Publix, Target, and Walmart. Consumers are encouraged to dispose of the products or return them for a refund.
To identify the recalled items, the FDA recommends checking the UPC on the back of the carton and looking for the Lot Code and Best By Date on the end of the carton. All Lot Codes related to this recall will begin with 2C.
Health Risks of Listeria
While no illnesses have been reported in connection with these products, the FDA warns that Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.
Conclusion
TreeHouse Foods is working with retail partners to retrieve and destroy the recalled products. The company urges customers to check their freezers for the affected items and dispose of them or return them for a refund. Listeria monocytogenes is responsible for approximately 1,600 infections and 260 deaths in the U.S. each year, making it a significant foodborne illness concern, according to the CDC.
