FREE CASH: Americans can get free money from $500 million pot in unclaimed cash – it’s an ‘easy’ one-step process to get your cash
There’s a chance you might be able to claim some extra money. The State Treasurer’s office in Iowa currently holds nearly $500 million in unclaimed assets that have not yet been claimed.
Great Iowa Treasure Hunt
State Treasurer Roby Smith highlighted the importance of the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, a program designed to help individuals, businesses, and non-profits reclaim unclaimed assets. According to Smith, these assets could include checking accounts, savings accounts, and even life insurance policies that owners may not be aware of.
“We have almost $500 million out there that we want to get back to the rightful owners,” Smith said during a news conference, as reported by Radio Iowa.
Recent Example: Des Moines Community Playhouse
On Monday afternoon, Smith visited the Des Moines Community Playhouse to present unclaimed funds to the non-profit organization. The Playhouse received a check for $316, which had been set aside by a school district for student tickets that were never purchased.
“No, this is not a play. This is not fake. This is real,” Smith assured as he handed over the funds. “The money is coming back to you.”
David Kilpatrick, the executive director of the Des Moines Community Playhouse, expressed gratitude for the returned funds and praised the simplicity of the process. “It’s really an easy process. I mean, I got an alert and I filled out a piece of paper and submitted it correctly, and then I get this check,” Kilpatrick said. “It was really nice and I’m grateful for it.”
Kilpatrick noted that the money had likely been unclaimed for several years, despite belonging to the Playhouse.
Record-Breaking Efforts
Last year, the State Treasurer’s office returned a record $34 million in unclaimed property, setting a new record in the program’s 40-year history. Smith expressed hopes of breaking that record this year. “We’re $300 closer as of today,” he said.
“It’s really an easy process. I mean, I got an alert and I filled out a piece of paper and submitted it correctly and then I get this check”
According to Smith, about one in ten Iowans has some unclaimed property in the State Treasurer’s office. The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt continues to be a crucial resource for returning these funds to their rightful owners.
Other Opportunities
If Iowa’s unclaimed property isn’t relevant to you, there may be other cash opportunities. Residents in a southern US state could be eligible to claim part of a $1.3 billion pot with just a name search. Additionally, there’s a limited time to claim up to $10,000 in another southern state.
