Cleveland City Worker Speaks Out After On-Duty Robbery: A Fight for Justice
A Cleveland city worker, who was held at gunpoint during a robbery last month, is now speaking out about her harrowing experience and advocating for increased safety measures. The incident occurred in Ohio City when the worker was confronted by Rafael Aliciea, who is now facing multiple felony charges.
The victim recounted the terrifying moment, saying, “I went to close the door, and he was literally right there. A foot and a half from me. And, he had the gun pointed at me. And, he put it up to my nose when he loaded the gun with the slide.” She expressed her fear, adding, “I am extremely terrified. I’m scared.”
Concerns About Public Safety and Suspect’s Release
The city worker’s ordeal took place at a city office, and Rafael Aliciea has been indicted on a range of serious charges. The victim is deeply concerned about the possibility of Aliciea being released from jail and is calling for greater measures to ensure public safety.
“If you’re the victim, and you have a gun to your face, it’s a whole life-changing experience. It’s just getting worse, and it needs to be recognized,” she said. Her fear is compounded by the broader issue of crime and safety in Cleveland.
Cleveland’s Public Safety and Police Shortages
Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb has emphasized that public safety is a top priority, noting a decrease in crime rates. However, the city faces a chronic shortage of police officers, leading to skepticism from residents about the effectiveness of these measures. The worker we interviewed remains unconvinced that crime is truly on the decline.
Court Proceedings and Security Measures
As of now, Rafael Aliciea has not posted bond, and the case is still unfolding in court. There are concerns that he could be placed under house arrest with an ankle bracelet, which authorities say would provide an “added measure of security.” The victim finds some comfort in this measure but continues to fight for justice and enhanced safety.
“If we were harder on our criminals like this man…He should be in prison or in jail,” the victim asserted. She remains determined to see justice served and to ensure that others are protected from similar threats.
Ongoing Case and Arrest Details
The suspect has pleaded not guilty, and the legal process is just beginning. Police arrested Aliciea after he used credit cards stolen from the city worker during the robbery. The community and the victim are watching closely as the case progresses through the court system.
