Big News: ‘Made me feel like a criminal,’ cries widow after Social Security said she owed $80k – the mistake ‘was all on them’
Americans may be eligible for cash payments stemming from a $115 million settlement related to a privacy class action lawsuit involving Oracle, a prominent cloud applications provider. This opportunity arises after Oracle agreed to the payout to resolve allegations that it illegally collected personal information and sold it to third parties for advertising purposes.
Allegations Against Oracle
The lawsuit claims that Oracle tracked various aspects of consumers’ lives, including web activity, in-store purchases, geolocation data, and other personal information, all without obtaining consumer consent. It is alleged that Oracle sold this sensitive information to third-party advertisers. Notable partners of Oracle include major companies such as Uber, AMC, and MGM Resorts.
Who is Eligible for Compensation?
The settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was collected by Oracle or made available through its ID Graph, Data Marketplace, or other advertising products since August 19, 2018. Although Oracle has not admitted any wrongdoing, it opted for the multi-million dollar settlement to address the data privacy lawsuit.
How Payments Will Work
Under the settlement’s terms, class members will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. However, the exact amount each individual will receive will depend on the total number of claims filed and the fees deducted from the settlement.
In addition to the financial settlement, Oracle has agreed to cease collecting user-generated information from referrer websites and forms on its own platform. The company will also establish an audit program to ensure compliance with its privacy obligations.
Important Deadlines for Claimants
Key deadlines for those interested in claiming a share of the settlement include:
- Exclusion and Objection Deadline: October 17, 2024
- Claim Form Submission Deadline: October 17, 2024
- Final Approval Hearing: November 14, 2024
Additional Settlements for Consumers
In related news, Visa and Mastercard customers may also qualify for compensation from a $197.5 million settlement. This settlement resolves a class action lawsuit alleging that the companies charged unlawful surcharges on ATM transactions, such as cash withdrawals, in violation of federal antitrust laws.
Moreover, consumers may be eligible for over $7,000 from a separate $3.25 million settlement concerning a data breach at See Tickets. The company reportedly failed to protect consumer information following a data breach in September 2023. While See Tickets denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
