Best Buy is recalling an item for a scary reason (You should check if you purchased one)
If you own an Insignia-branded air fryer, it’s crucial to check whether your unit is among the nearly 300,000 being recalled by Best Buy. On Thursday, March 14, the electronics retailer announced this significant recall due to safety concerns.
Safety Hazards Prompting Recall
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the recall because the affected air fryers and air fryer ovens pose “fire, burn, and laceration hazards.” Reports indicate that these units are prone to overheating, particularly at the handles or the glass doors. The CPSC has documented 24 incidents of overheating, melting, or glass shattering, including six cases where the air fryers caught fire.
Out of the total units sold, approximately 187,400 were sold in the U.S., while nearly 100,000 were distributed in Canada. The CPSC is advising consumers who own these appliances to “immediately stop using” them.

Best Buy is offering affected customers the option to return their air fryers for a full refund or store credit. If you’re unsure whether your air fryer is part of the recall, the model numbers included in this recall are:

Previous Recalls
This is not the first instance of Best Buy recalling Insignia air fryers. In April 2022, the retailer recalled nearly 800,000 units of the same brand due to similar “fire and burn hazards,” following over 100 reports from consumers in the U.S. and Canada about overheating issues. Some of those incidents resulted in injuries, including one involving a child. Fortunately, the company has not reported any injuries related to the March 2024 recall as of now.
