Act Fast! Final Opportunity to Get $6,000 from $2.7M Data Breach Settlement
According to The Sun , Time is running out for Americans to file claims in the $2.7 million data breach settlement involving Great Expressions, a network of 246 dental centers. Eligible individuals have until Friday, November 8, 2024, to submit their claim forms and secure compensation for the 2023 data breach that compromised sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers.
The Settlement and Eligibility
Great Expressions has faced a class-action lawsuit following the breach, where plaintiffs argued that the company failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures, leading to the breach of personal data. While the company has not admitted wrongdoing, it agreed to settle the lawsuit with a $2.7 million payout.
To qualify for compensation, individuals must have received a notification from Great Expressions about the data breach, which occurred in February 2023. The settlement divides class members into two groups based on whether their Social Security numbers were impacted by the breach:
- Subclass 1: Customers whose Social Security numbers were potentially accessed can claim:
- $500 in cash
- $500 for ordinary losses
- $5,000 for extraordinary losses (with acceptable proof such as receipts or credit reports)
- $20 per hour of lost time for up to 2 hours (maximum payment of $40)
- Subclass 2: Customers whose Social Security numbers were not impacted can claim:
- $20 per hour of lost time for up to 2 hours (maximum payment of $40)
