The USDA has confirmed a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) increase for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits in the 48 contiguous states, along with Alaska, Guam, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, recipients in Hawaii will experience a reduction in their Food Stamps, highlighting the need for beneficiaries to remain cautious about relying on COLA increases.

States Implementing the 2025 COLA Boost

The new COLA increase will take effect on October 1, 2024, with benefits being distributed on the following schedule:

  3. California: October 1 to 10
  4. Colorado: October 1 to 10
  5. Connecticut: October 1 to 3
  6. Florida: October 1 to 28
  7. Idaho: October 1 to 10

  10. Kansas: October 1 to 10
  11. Kentucky: October 1 to 19
  12. Louisiana: October 1 to 23
  13. Massachusetts: October 1 to 14

  16. Nevada: October 1 to 10
  17. New Jersey: October 1 to 5
  18. New Mexico: October 1 to 20
  19. New York: October 1 to 9
  20. North Dakota: October 1

  23. Pennsylvania: Over the first 10 business days
  24. Rhode Island: October 1

New Maximum SNAP Amounts

The COLA increase will result in slight adjustments to the maximum SNAP benefit amounts, which are crucial for families living on tight budgets. Effective October 1, 2024, the new maximum amounts will be as follows:

  • Household of 1: $292
  • Household of 2: $536
  • Household of 3: $768
  • Household of 4: $975
  • Household of 5: $1,158
  • Household of 6: $1,390
  • Household of 7: $1,536
  • Household of 8: $1,756
  • Each additional member: $220

While the increase may be modest, every additional dollar can significantly impact families relying on SNAP to meet their nutritional needs.
