JCPenney Closes 650 Stores for Thanksgiving—Shop Early for Holiday Deals

According to The Sun , Shoppers looking to pick up essentials ahead of the holiday season at JCPenney will need to plan ahead, as the department store chain will close all 650 of its locations on Thanksgiving Day, November 28. This closure is in observance of the holiday and out of respect for employees and customers who celebrate Thanksgiving, according to a company press release.

For those eager to shop before the holiday, it’s recommended to visit JCPenney in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, or wait until the rush of Black Friday. While many competitors such as Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Kohl’s, and Target will also be closed for Thanksgiving, there are still options available at retailers like Walmart, though many will also shut their doors for the day.

JCPenney, like many other retailers, has committed to giving employees the opportunity to enjoy the holiday with family, following a trend that started in 2020 when many retailers closed on Thanksgiving due to the pandemic. “Thanksgiving and Christmas are days to allow our hardworking staff to spend time with their loved ones,” said Marc Rosen, CEO and president of JCPenney.

Shoppers can look forward to discounts of up to 75% off fine jewelry, 50% off Levi’s for the entire family, and up to 50% off Disney toys and apparel. Fashion items for men and women will be marked down by up to 60%, with footwear starting at just $19.99.

Black Friday shoppers can also expect exclusive one-day-only deals, with JCPenney opening its doors early at 5 a.m. local time. Special giveaways will be held throughout the day at 5 a.m., 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m., along with exciting promotions like a Golden Tote offering savings through the holiday season.

JCPenney has also partnered with Amazon Prime Video for a special holiday promotion, where NFL game days from now through December 22 will feature surprise offers and deals for viewers.

The company, which has faced financial difficulties in recent years, including filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020, has been undergoing restructuring. Although JCPenney has downsized significantly from its peak of over 2,000 stores in the 1970s, it remains committed to delivering high-quality products and holiday savings for its customers.
