Up to $11,000 for Americans in Data Breach Settlement – Bank Statement Needed

According to The Sun , Eligible Americans could be entitled to receive up to $11,000 as part of a class action settlement stemming from a 2021 data breach involving Ardagh Glass. The $2.75 million settlement comes after claims that Ardagh Glass failed to adequately protect the personal information of its employees and their dependents, resulting in a ransomware attack that compromised data between April 23, 2021, and May 19, 2021.

Although Ardagh Glass has not admitted to any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to pay the settlement to resolve the lawsuit, which impacted over 5,300 individuals. The compensation includes reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses related to the breach, such as costs for fraud, identity theft, professional services, and credit-related expenses. Claimants can also receive compensation for up to five hours of lost time, paid at a rate of $25 per hour.

To receive settlement benefits, individuals must submit a valid claim form by November 27, 2024. Claimants will need to provide supporting documents such as bank statements, receipts, credit reports, legal documents, and tax returns to verify their data breach-related expenses. All claims must be submitted under penalty of perjury, and fraudulent claims will negatively affect other class members.

For instance, Great Expressions, a network of 246 dental care centers, is settling a lawsuit over a September 2023 data breach. This settlement addresses allegations that the company’s cybersecurity measures were insufficient to protect consumer data. The settlement benefits individuals who were notified about the breach, with additional compensation for those whose Social Security numbers were compromised.
