Brook Park Police Arrest Man for Laughing Gas Use in Pickup Truck Parking Lot
A 33-year-old Brook Park man was arrested on October 25 for inhaling nitrous oxide outside Ashes Smoke Shop, located at 15069 Snow Road.
At around 4 p.m., police received a call reporting that the man was in the smoke shop’s parking lot, inhaling nitrous oxide and asking passersby to buy him gasoline. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the man sitting in a pickup truck with the engine running. His eyes were glassy, and he appeared slow to respond to questions.
As officers spoke to him, the man raised a bottle of nitrous oxide to his mouth and inhaled from it. Police noticed more bottles of nitrous oxide on the passenger seat. Despite multiple commands to stop, the man continued inhaling from the bottle. When officers asked him to turn off the engine, the man claimed the truck wasn’t running and that he couldn’t turn it off.
Opening the truck’s driver-side door, officers discovered additional nitrous oxide bottles on the floor, along with dried vomit on the man’s sweatshirt. When officers instructed the man to get out of the truck, he appeared confused and uncooperative. Officers had to physically assist him out of the vehicle, where he slid to the ground. He was then handcuffed.
A search of the man’s sweatshirt pocket revealed two small bags containing white powder. Due to his condition, paramedics were called to the scene, but after examining him, they cleared him medically. The man was arrested and taken into custody.
