Claim Up to $15K: Deadline Approaching for $1.3M Data Breach Settlement
According to The Sun , Americans affected by a recent data breach could be eligible for a one-time payout, as part of a class action lawsuit settlement. The case stems from a data breach involving UnitedLex, a legal data analytics provider, which allegedly failed to prevent a cyberattack in March 2023. This breach exposed sensitive information belonging to its beneficiaries, contractors, and employees, including financial account details, Social Security numbers, and personal identifiers.
While UnitedLex has not admitted to any wrongdoing, it has agreed to a $1.3 million settlement to resolve the case and avoid further legal action. Individuals who qualify for compensation must meet specific eligibility requirements, including being current or former beneficiaries, contractors, or employees with UnitedLex whose personal information was compromised in the breach. Those eligible should have already received a notice by mail or email with a Claim ID and PIN.
How to File a Claim
Eligible individuals can file their claims online by using the Claim ID and PIN provided in the notice. For those who did not receive their Claim ID, an alternative filing method is available through the settlement website. Paper claim forms can also be downloaded and mailed to the settlement administrator.
The deadline to submit a claim is fast approaching on November 12, 2024. The exclusion and objection periods have already passed, with the cutoff date for those actions being September 23, 2024.
Benefits of the Settlement
Those who qualify for the settlement may receive a variety of benefits, including:
- Free credit monitoring and identity theft protection: These services will be available for claimants who enroll by July 11, 2027.
- Reimbursement: Claimants can receive up to $15,000 for documented expenses related to identity theft or fraud, including bank fees, credit costs, travel expenses, and damages.
- Compensation for lost time: Claimants who spent time addressing issues caused by the breach can receive an additional $500.
If the total claims exceed the available settlement fund, remaining money will be distributed to eligible claimants on a pro-rata basis. UnitedLex has also agreed to enhance its cybersecurity measures to prevent future breaches.

For instance, another data breach settlement involving an accounts receivable collection company is offering $100 to eligible claimants who file by November 12, 2024. Furthermore, the deadline to claim $4,200 in a Paycom settlement is November 7, 2024.
