Final Days of Starbucks: 30-Year Downtown Location Set to Close—Don’t Miss Out!
According to The Sun, A historic Starbucks location in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood is preparing to serve its last coffee on November 8. This particular store, located at 120 4th Street, has been a staple of the community since its opening in 1994, marking nearly 30 years of service.
Mixed Reactions from the Community
The news of the closure has prompted a range of reactions from the public. Many expressed indifference, citing the abundance of Starbucks locations in the area. One comment on a NEWSBREAK thread read, “Ummm, this Starbucks is literally ACROSS THE STREET from ANOTHER Starbucks. What an absurd article.”
Some responses reflected bitterness towards Starbucks itself, with one individual commenting, “As IF Starbucks is in danger of DISAPPEARING from San Francisco…go to Union Square, close your eyes, and throw a rock, and you’re guaranteed to hit a Starbucks.”
The closure has also sparked political discourse, with comments such as “Yet you keep voting in democrats!” and another stating, “Don’t worry about it, they’ll keep voting for the destructive democrats! Mind-boggling.” In contrast, one user simply remarked, “No big loss.”
Starbucks Response
In a statement regarding the closure, a Starbucks spokesperson said, “As part of Starbucks’ standard course of business, we continually evaluate our business to ensure a healthy store portfolio. After careful consideration, we’ve determined it is best to close the store at 120 4th Street.”

Starbucks Closures in San Francisco
This is not the first Starbucks closure in San Francisco; earlier this fall, the store inside Emporium Centre San Francisco permanently closed, and last year, seven locations across the city were shut down, including stores in SoMa, Union Square, the Financial District, and Cathedral Hill neighborhoods.
Additionally, Starbucks has announced plans to discontinue its olive-oil-based coffees on November 7, just a day before the SoMa location closes. These offerings had been available to customers since January 2024.
Future Investments
Despite the closures, Starbucks remains committed to its presence in San Francisco. A spokesperson noted that the company plans to invest $2.5 million in renovations at four other shops throughout the city. Employees from the closing SoMa branch will have the opportunity to transfer to a neighboring store of their choice.
Starbucks continues to operate multiple locations across San Francisco, including one directly across the street from the 30-year-old shop at 789 Mission Street.
