Massive dog food recall in U.S states: They ask to monitor strange behavior

Attention pet owners: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of certain bags of “Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food” produced by Mars Petcare US. The recall is due to the presence of metal shards in the dog food, which poses a serious risk to the health of our canine companions.

Details of the Recall

The recall affects 315 bags of the 44-pound size dog food. The specific lot code is 410B2TXT02, and the best-by date is March 4, 2025. If you have purchased this product, please check the back of the packaging near the bottom of the bag, adjacent to the barcode, to see if it belongs to the affected lot. This product was distributed to Walmart stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. For the safety of your pet, even if purchased outside these states, it is advisable to inspect any bags of this dog food and monitor your pet for any signs of illness.

The product packaging is bright yellow with a golden retriever on the front and features a large blue rosette with “Pedigree” in white lettering.

FDA’s Swift Action and Recommendations

The FDA’s prompt action in recalling this product is a relief for pet owners concerned about their furry friends. Although the contamination was discovered, there have been no reported cases of injury or illness associated with this food as of now. Mars Petcare US has advised customers to monitor their pets for unusual behavior and consult a veterinarian if any concerns arise. The affected bags have been removed from shelves in coordination with Walmart.

Returning the Product

Consumers who find the recalled dog food in their homes can return it to the store for an exchange. There is no need to panic about other Pedigree products, as only the specific lot mentioned has been affected.

Other Recent Food Recalls

Food recalls are not uncommon, as the FDA enforces rigorous safety standards to protect consumers. Recalls often involve undeclared allergens, bacterial contamination, or foreign objects. A recent example includes the recall of Creamy Creations ice cream cups by H-E-B in April due to metal shards. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that case either.
