Social Security announces 4 new payments for SSDI in October 2024
SSDI recipients may receive a new payment as early as October 3, 2024, depending on when they started receiving Social Security Disability Insurance payments and whether they are also receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Payment on October 3, 2024
For those who qualify for both SSI and SSDI as of October 1, 2024, the next payment will be deposited on October 3, 2024. Additionally, SSDI recipients who began receiving benefits before May 1997 will also receive their payments on this date. If you fall into one of these categories, your October payment is just around the corner.
SSDI Payments After October 3, 2024
For recipients who don’t qualify for the October 3 payment, Social Security has scheduled three additional payment dates in October based on your birthdate. Payments will be made on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of the month:
- October 9, 2024: Recipients with birth dates from the 1st to the 10th.
- October 16, 2024: Recipients with birth dates from the 11th to the 20th.
- October 23, 2024: Recipients with birth dates from the 21st to the 31st.
These payments apply to SSDI recipients who do not qualify for the October 3 payment. The amount of your benefit will depend on your work history, earnings, and the age at which you filed.
SSDI Payment Amounts for October 3, 9, 16, and 23
The average SSDI payment is $1,539, but the exact amount will vary based on individual circumstances. Low earners may receive a smaller SSDI check and could also qualify for additional SSI payments.
In some cases, workers with disabilities can receive up to $3,822 per month, but this is only possible for those who earned the maximum taxable income for 35 years in jobs covered by Social Security and who filed as late as possible.
Additional Benefits for Spouses and Children
Spouses and children of SSDI recipients are also eligible to receive payments on the same dates in October. However, their payment amounts will be significantly lower, ranging from approximately $421 to $492.
