The popular company Disney launched its brand new media platform Disney Plus on November 12, 2019.
The new streaming service will be offering a variety of shows and films so if you have run out of episodes to binge-watch, dear reader, look no further because there is a total of 7,500 watchable episodes and 500 films on Disney Plus, including shows and films DuckTales (1987-90, 2018-now), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), The Emperor’s New Groove (2000), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), and much more.
News website, Business Insider, has reported that more than 2 million people in the US subscribed to the service before launch, and Disney’s executives are expecting that number to go up as the years go by and hope to have between 60 million and 90 million global Disney Plus subscribers by 2024. Multiple media outlets reported that Disney Plus surpassed 10 million subscribers on day one. Even though it has been a highly successful week for Disney not everything was perfect– unfortunately.
9 a.m on launch day, instead of being welcomed by a vast amount of movies and shows, more than 8,000 subscribers were welcomed with an error message and people took to Twitter posting about the situation. DownDector.com, a website that measures online malfunctions, was also able to calculate the situation. Disney alerted of the situation took immediate action, and DownDector.com was able to calculate a significant improvement in the system.
Even though it was not a smooth ride for Disney, or for Disney Plus subscribers this week, the company is working on fixing the problem entirely so this situation will not, hopefully, occur again. The streaming service will perhaps even one day be considered one of the best streaming services available considering the numerous amount of TV shows, including the ones that are currently being produced, and films they have to offer.
