“8-Year-Old Drives to Target and Hits Mailbox, Bedford Police Report”
BEDFORD, Ohio (WOIO) — An 8-year-old girl drove herself to a Target store in Bainbridge, a journey that took 24 minutes, according to a Bedford Police report.
Bedford Police were called around 9 a.m. to report a missing child and a missing vehicle from a home on Greencroft Road. Authorities issued a “Be on the lookout” notification with descriptions of both the child and the SUV involved.
Next-door neighbors provided Ring doorbell camera footage showing the girl entering the vehicle and driving away around the time she was last seen by her family. Bedford Heights later reported receiving a call about a child driving east on Rockside Road in a vehicle matching the description of the missing SUV.
Although officers initially could not locate the girl or the vehicle, Flock cameras later identified the SUV traveling east on Pettibone Road. Bainbridge Police subsequently informed Bedford Police that the vehicle had been found at a Target store in Bainbridge.
Upon arrival, officers located the girl inside the store, and she was reunited with her family. The young girl also informed officers that she had hit a mailbox during her drive, according to a police release.
