The city of Las Vegas was left in shock as more than 50 people were killed at a Jason Aldean concert late Sunday night.

This event took place at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas (NV), injuring more than 500 people. Suspect Stephen Paddock is said to have been standing on the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay Hotel, firing down on the festival.

At first, fans didn’t know what was going on. SiriusXM radio host Storme Warren states, “I thought it was fireworks going off.”

Everyone was frantically running out of the area and doing as much as they could to stay safe. People were everywhere. Some were taking shelter under cars and bleachers, trying to stay out of the gunfire. According to Rachel De Kerf, a witness of the massacre, “The gunshots lasted for 10-15 minutes. It didn’t stop.”

After realizing the rapid fire was not fireworks, everyone in the crowd started cautiously ducking down. Since there was no clear view of where the gunshots were coming from, the best option was to just stay low and wait it out.

Investigators of the event do not know what Paddock’s motivation was for planning and going through with this act. Paddock was later found by police early Monday morning. He is thought to have killed himself before detectives entered his hotel room. Police believe that there was not any other shooter taking part in the act. Originally, Marilou Danley was taken into custody as she was thought to have been traveling with Paddock before the shooting occurred, but LVMPD detectives no longer believe this is the case.

Police found firearms, explosives, and ammunition inside of Paddock’s hotel room. Paddock busted through the window of his 32nd-floor room, using the hole to shoot through when the massacre occurred.

After the shooting was over, people from all throughout the Las Vegas area have rushed to various blood banks to give blood to those injured by the attack. Celebrities and government officials have all given their support to those involved in the attack, including U.S. President Donald Trump.

The death toll keeps increasing, as well as the number of those injured as a result of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
