Should Celebrities Talk About Politics?
Celebrities should be allowed to voice their political views without getting so much criticism.

Meryl Streep is just one actress to come under fire for expressing political opinions

So the question is if celebrities talk about a new product and how great it is then why not talk about the presidential candidates and how great they think they are?
Celebrities are supposed to reflect the times and what is happening all around them, and I think politics falls into that category. The presidential election is very important to all Americans, so why wouldn’t they share their views on it?
During the Golden Globes this year, Meryl Streep made an impactful speech when she was accepting her Lifetime Achievement Award. She talked about how President Trump mocked a disabled reporter saying, ”It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.” She also asked people to join her in supporting the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Trump fired back on twitter, saying she was,”one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood,” even though she has more Academy Award nominations than any than any other actor in history.
But this is not about who was right or wrong. It is about how Meryl Streep felt about President Trump’s actions and how she stood up for what she believed in. She was not afraid to share her opinions on his actions because she is an American citizen, and she has rights to speak about what she believes, whether it even be about politics or just some other general belief.
Even though this election is a touchy subject for some people, celebrities should have a right to voice their political views without getting so much criticism. They are American citizens, and they have rights to voice their views on whatever they please. We do not have to listen to what they have to say, but we should not criticize them for sharing their political views because most Americans do it everyday.
